Israeli Jazz pianist and vocalist Deborah Dery grew up in a musical household in Tel-Aviv, starting piano lessons at the tender age of eight followed shortly thereafter by vocal lessons. Attracted by both vocal and instrumental improvisation she turned her focus to jazz and at the young age of fourteen began performing professionally in the Tel Aviv Jazz scene all while attending the renowned Alef High School for the performing arts. After graduating high school, She joined the excellence program at the Stricker Conservatory, in collaboration with The New School, and subsequently continued her academic studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree under the tutelage of reputable jazz educators such as Erez Bar Noy, Amos Hoffman, Eli Degibri, Omri Mor, Benjamin Moussay, Serge Lazarevitch, Ilan Salem and Shoshana Cohen. Deborah performs regularly in Israel as a leader with her trio at venues like Shablul, Beit Ha’amudim, Jazz Kissa, and Amama Jazz Room. Her performances feature her original compositions as well as her arrangements of classic jazz standards. Deborah’s EP was released in 2019, followed by her debut album Blossom Time, released in 2024. The album features Deborah’s quartet at their most creative, stretching out over her compositions and arrangements. Additional performances as a leader and a sidewoman include the Tel Aviv jazz festival with the Eyal Vilner big band, the Agur Wine Festival, and the New Orleans Tel Aviv Festival where she was selected to performance an homage to the great Billie Holliday! Her musical collaborations include but are not limited to Aharale Kaminsky, Ofer Ganor, Omer Ashano, Yuval Drabkin, Gonn Shani, Daniel Dor, Shai Zelman, Avri Borochov, and Jess Koren. In addition to her performance career, Deborah is an in demand jazz educator, lecturer, and private teacher for the as well as a reiki practitioner and master. She has led masterclasses at the Thelma Yellin High School of Arts and Mikey Conservatory. Deborah is currently on faculty at the Ra’anana Conservatory and keeps a busy private teaching schedule.
